Strengthening Community Health in Banten with reach52 – Johnson & Johnson (Wave 2021)
In 2021, Penabulu Wikara partnered with reach52, a health-tech organization
focused on underserved communities, to implement a groundbreaking project funded by Johnson & Johnson
Global Community Impact (Wave 2021). The initiative aimed to empower Community Health Workers
(CHWs) in
rural Serang Regency, Banten Province through digital health innovations and hands-on training.
As the local implementation partner, Penabulu Wikara supported ground operations, stakeholder
engagement, and training facilitation—bridging international health technology with community-level
action.
What We Did Together
- 👩⚕️ 500 CHWs Trained
Comprehensive modules were delivered on maternal and child health (MCH), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and infectious diseases—enhancing clinical and community health knowledge. - 📲 Offline-First Digital Tools Deployed
CHWs were introduced to reach52’s mobile health platform, allowing for data collection, patient screening, and health education even in areas with limited internet access. - 🧑🤝🧑 12,880 Residents Engaged

Including 860 maternal and child health (MCH) screenings and 1,887 NCD checks such as blood pressure and blood glucose measurements.
This collaboration led to improved health service delivery in remote communities— 91% of CHWs reported better access to medical tools, while 88% felt more connected to the health system through digital tools. Residents appreciated the new access to screening services, and early detection efforts led many to seek timely treatment.
Expanding Digital Health Access in Banten with reach52 – Johnson & Johnson (Wave 2022)
In 2023–2024, Penabulu Wikara continued its impactful collaboration with reach52 in a second wave of support from Johnson & Johnson Global Community Impact (Wave 2022). This phase focused on deepening and scaling digital health access in Serang Regency and Tangerang Regency, Banten Province, Indonesia—reaching communities often excluded from formal health systems. As the trusted implementation partner, Penabulu Wikara coordinated local engagement, training, and stakeholder collaboration to ensure this expansion was deeply rooted in the needs and realities of rural residents.
What We Did Together- 👩⚕️ 900 CHWs Trained
Community Health Workers were upskilled in key topics such as COVID-19, Tuberculosis, Mental Health, Maternal & Child Health (MCH), Nutrition, and NCDs (diabetes & hypertension). All CHWs completed post-training assessments before field deployment. - 📲 Technology-Enabled Engagement
CHWs used the reach52 Access mobile platform to guide one-on-one house visits, deliver personalized health education via the Assist Prompt feature, and support referrals to local health facilities. - 🧑🤝🧑 177,813 Residents Engaged
Through door-to-door health awareness campaigns, CHWs conducted deep engagement with nearly 180,000 residents, increasing health literacy and access. - ❤️ 205,589 Screenings Conducted
Residents received on-site health checks, including blood pressure and blood glucose screenings. Mass events also brought in hundreds of attendees for health talks and risk assessments.

Expanding Access to Vision Care in Serang with reach52 – Essilor Partnership
In collaboration with Essilor and reach52, Penabulu Wikara supported a community-focused initiative in Serang Regency, Banten, aimed at raising awareness and improving access to affordable vision care for low-income residents. This program introduced a social business model combining community education with accessible vision products.
As the local implementation partner, Penabulu Wikara played a key role in community outreach and coordination, helping integrate CHW-led health promotion with partner store engagement for vision screening and product access.
What We Did Together- 👓 40 Community Health Workers Trained
Female CHWs aged 23–60 received training based on WHO guidelines and Essilor materials, covering eye conditions, screening protocols, and referral pathways. - 🚪 4,381 Residents Engaged
Through door-to-door visits, CHWs interviewed residents aged 40+ to assess vision needs and refer them either to partner shops for glasses or to eye specialists at local Puskesmas. - 🛍️ 6 Partner Stores Onboarded
Local pharmacies and optical shops were trained, stocked with 40 units of Essilor glasses, and connected to the reach52 digital system for referrals and stock management.
- 3,802 residents were referred for eyeglasses or further specialist care.
- 93 glasses were sold, 96% of which came directly from CHW referrals.
- 40% of CHWs showed improved knowledge in vision and eye care post-training.

Transforming Nutrition and Maternal Health in Rural Indonesia – Bayer (Wave 2024)
From October 2023 to September 2024, Penabulu Wikara partnered with reach52 and Bayer to launch a campaign aimed at improving nutrition, maternal and child health (MCH), and family planning in rural farming communities across Serang Regency, Pandeglang Regency (Banten Province), and Kupang Regency (East Nusa Tenggara).
The program focused on Better Life Farming (BLF) communities—specifically targeting women in agriculture and farming households—by delivering health education, supplement access, and behavioral change support through digital tools and grassroots engagement.
What We Did Together- 🧕 50 Community Health Workers (CHWs) Trained
Local female CHWs received training on MCH, nutrition, family planning, and digital engagement tools. Average post-training score: 68%. - 🧑🤝🧑 9,072 Residents Engaged
Through a mix of door-to-door outreach and community events, agents reached women of reproductive age—53% of whom are farmers—across three districts. - 📅 22 Community Events Conducted

Increasing Childhood Immunization Coverage in Banten – Sanofi Partnership
In late 2023, Penabulu Wikara partnered with reach52, Sanofi, and Bio Farma to pilot a new approach for increasing Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) coverage in Serang Regency, Banten Province. This initiative addressed vaccine hesitancy and access challenges among parents of children under five years old through community-based engagement and collaboration with local health stakeholders.
What We Did Together- 🧕 80 CHWs Trained
Kaders (CHWs) were equipped with targeted knowledge on IPV, vaccine safety, and how to address misinformation and fears within families. Post-training average score: 71%, with 98% of CHWs reporting the training was useful and relevant. - 🩺 58 Midwives Trained
In collaboration with the District Health Office (Dinkes) and Puskesmas, midwives received technical refresher training on vaccine administration, communication around AEFIs (Adverse Events Following Immunization), and parent engagement. - 🧑🤝🧑 25,549 Residents Engaged
CHWs conducted door-to-door education and distributed digital materials via WhatsApp, addressing common myths and encouraging attendance at vaccination events. - 💉 29 Vaccination Events Organized
Pilot drives across all kecamatan in Serang Regency, in collaboration with Puskesmas and Posyandu, resulted in 1,369 children (who had previously missed IPV 1 or 2) receiving their vaccinations.
- 26,041 children under five were identified, with 4,896 (19%) found to have missed one or more IPV doses.
- 28% of those children were vaccinated during the pilot events.
- Among those not reached through the drives, 54% of parents still followed up with vaccinations due to CHW influence.
- Monthly vaccination coverage increased by 25% across 29 kecamatan.
- In areas like Ciruas, attendance doubled, showing sustained impact beyond the campaign.

This program demonstrated that with the right education, community trust, and logistical support, vaccine hesitancy can be overcome. Nutritious snacks, pre-event reminders, and one-on-one follow-ups created a welcoming, informed environment for parents.
Advancing Tuberculosis Awareness and Screening – Johnson & Johnson (Wave 2024)
In the latest wave of support from Johnson & Johnson Global Community Impact (Wave 2024), Penabulu Wikara and reach52 launched a targeted tuberculosis (TB) awareness and screening campaign across two regions in Indonesia: Serang Regency, Banten and Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara.
The campaign aimed to close gaps in knowledge and early detection of TB—one of Indonesia’s top public health burdens—through grassroots education, frontline capacity building, and strategic health system integration.

Promoting Whole Life Vaccination Awareness – GHIG8 Program
As part of the GHIG8 global initiative, Penabulu Wikara collaborated with reach52 to pilot a community-centered approach to Whole Life Vaccine (WLV) education in Serang Regency, Banten Province. This innovative campaign addressed vaccine awareness and confidence across all age groups, recognizing that immunization is not only for children—but a lifelong commitment to health.
The program aimed to bridge information gaps, build vaccine literacy, and support better decision-making for families, adolescents, pregnant women, and adults in rural communities.

Raising Awareness on Chronic Disease and Lung Cancer Prevention – Amgen Partnership
In collaboration with Amgen and reach52, Penabulu Wikara launched a focused public health education campaign across South Tangerang and Serang Regency, targeting the prevention and early awareness of chronic diseases—particularly cardiometabolic syndrome (CMS)—and lung cancer.
This program responded to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Indonesia by empowering Community Health Workers (CHWs) to educate communities through repeated, structured home visits.

CHWs in both South Tangerang and Serang received training on: - Recognizing early signs of cardiometabolic risks (e.g., obesity, diabetes, hypertension)

In 2025, Penabulu Wikara continued its strategic collaboration with reach52 and Bayer to promote better maternal nutrition through the introduction of MMS (Multiple Micronutrient Supplements) in farming communities. This wave focused on pregnant women and women of reproductive age in Karawang and West Bandung Regencies, particularly those connected to Bayer's GAPOKTAN-supported agriculture programs.
